Weekly Reflection #2

Quinlan Kerr  Senior Project  Kelly Griffen-Brown  11/22/22  Weekly Reflection I have now concluded my second week at the Country Club of New Hampshire with Liam, Derek, and the whole staff at the course. This week, I learned a lot and have a bunch of new experiences. I really enjoyed this week and it was a mix of emotions as I finish up my senior project, both happy and sad.  A huge life lesson I learned here at the course is one that wasn’t told to me directly or had anything to do with golf. This lesson is you get what you receive. The staff members at the course are so nice and supportive of us. Rocky, the bartender, played high-level hockey when he was younger so he loves to talk sports with us. He also gave us a 50% discount every time we got food there. This is just one example, genuinely everyone on the course I’ve met from maintenance to clubhouse has shown me kindness and gratitude.  This week I did a ton of new things but a big thing...

Blog Post #11 5/20/22 Hours Earned: 5.5 Total Hours: 51 Today on the course we worked with Pat one of my favorite staff members. Liam and I took out a cart and followed Pat around the course. As we did we talked with Pat about maintenance, the course, and just life in general. We worked on Bunker management today. Obviously when golfers go into the sand they are supposed to rake it out nicely, but this doesn't always happen. He showed us how to use his cart with the back brush and fix the bunkers.  We also washed carts when we were done.  Me washing carts.

Blog Post #12 5/21/22 Hours Earned: 5 Total Hours: 56 Today we met a new staff member, Sam. He works in the kitchen and today he specifically was running the grill. The kitchen inside the clubhouse closed down so Sam was the only source of food for the golfers at the club. On the grills they make burgers, hotdogs, sausages, beans, potato salad, and corn. It was cool to see how the golfers migrated from inside to outside because of how nice it was outside. Liam helped set up and grill while I motivated from the sidelines.   Blog Post #10 5/19/22 Hours Earned: 5.5 Total Hours: 45.5  Today the big thing I accomplished was my first day of putting. I felt good enough to stand with the crutches and swing my arms to putt. Liam’s friend Jacob came to the course today too. We played games on the putting green and it felt good to be able to participate in them. Games like fewest shots to put a certain hole; I also tried to chip but I was unsuccessful in doing so. Us at lunch. The glizzy grubbage.

Blog Post #9 5/18/22 Hours Earned: 3.5 Total Hours: 40  Today Liam and I worked with Becca. Becca is a bartender here and also one of the Beverage cart girls. Becca was going out as the Bev Cart girl today and before that we got to see the prep time it takes to get the cart ready. She has to grab a ton of ice and obviously all the drinks. Then we went with her to see what it was like. Then we ended the day in the pro shop with Derek, Rocky, and Mark. View from Hole 9.

Blog Post #8 5/17/22 Hours Earned: 5.5 Total Hours: 36.5 We started the day doing maintenance work with Carl. We learned how to and why they wash the batteries of the golf carts.  We also learned how to charge the carts and the types of carts they have at the course. Then Jack Robbie, Meg Patrick, and Nat Daniels came to play a round of 9 with us. We ended the day talking about what we were looking forward to tomorrow and checking in with Rocky at the bar. Reflection

Quinlan Kerr  Senior Project  Kelly Griffen-Brown  11/16/22  Weekly Reflection  In my first week of senior project, I began my “internship” at the Country Club of New Hampshire with Liam Chapman. I learned a bunch of new things and new people. As I continue to get older I begin to realize the advantage of knowing different people and learning through others' experiences. At the course this week I was able to have a ton of fun and learn at the same time.  The first thing I noticed while at the course was not actually related to golf.  At the golf course, we always drive around the course and chat with golfers. As I have done that and just being around the course I have seen the Proctor connection in full effect. So many people I have talked to have some sort of connection to Proctor. Whether they went to Proctor themselves, their child went, or they have a friend/family member who works at Proctor. I learned how impactful the Proctor connection can ...
