Weekly Reflection

I have now concluded my second week at the Country Club of New Hampshire with Liam, Derek, and the whole staff at the course. This week, I learned a lot and have a bunch of new experiences. I really enjoyed this week and it was a mix of emotions as I finish up my senior project, both happy and sad.

A huge life lesson I learned here at the course is one that wasn’t told to me directly or had anything to do with golf. This lesson is you get what you receive. The staff members at the course are so nice and supportive of us. Rocky, the bartender, played high-level hockey when he was younger so he loves to talk sports with us. He also gave us a 50% discount every time we got food there. This is just one example, genuinely everyone on the course I’ve met from maintenance to clubhouse has shown me kindness and gratitude.

This week I did a ton of new things but a big thing for me as I swung my first club. Although just a putter I was able to get out on the green a few times and work on some putting with my crutches. It definitely was not perfect and I had to use my crutches but it was a big goal for me when starting the project. I did not have a torn ACL when I chose this project so if I had been healthy I would have been playing a ton of golf. This has made me upset and annoyed at times I have to just sit on the cart and observe. But being able to putt really made me happy, I haven’t been able to do much the last month and it was cool to see that I could putt.

There was nothing too out of the ordinary this week everything was pretty much expected. I continue to grow “networking” or learning how to better talk to people in small amounts of time. I have seen how the golf course can be a second office and a good place to meet people, but meeting people on the course with no meaning is purposeless. It’s the connection you make with people that is valuable to you whether that be for monetary gain or personal. If no connection is made that relationship is not worth much and on the course, I’ve tried to work on that.
